17th Youth Parliament Pakistan to meet for its Inaugural Session Virtually

February 18, 2022: The 300-member 17th batch of the Youth Parliament Pakistan, selected from across the globe to serve a one year term for 2022, is meeting for its inaugural session virtually via Zoom.

The first session of Youth Parliament Pakistan 2022 batch will be held virtually from February 19-20, 2022. After a brief orientation, the session of Youth Parliament Pakistan will officialy begin with the oath taking ceremony of the primary members.

 Around 300 Primary members representing all 272 constituencies of National Assembly of Pakistan alongwith 28 representatives from Azad Jammu & Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan and Overseas Pakistanis and approximately 600 alternate members have been selected for the 17th YPP. The 900 body representing all regions of Pakistan and Overseas Pakistanis around the globe has emerged as the largest and most diverse youth body that ever existed in Pakistan.

Orientation and Oath-taking will be followed by an interactive talk on Parliamentary Committees and their Importance. The first sitting will conclude with the members breaking into 20 committees for which they have already given their preferences. The first sitting of the committee will provide an opportunity to members to discuss each committee’s agenda and elect their Chairpersons, Deputy Chairpersons, Committee Secretaries & Joint Secretaries.

A distinguished panel of guest speakers has been invited for the second sitting to kick-start debate on Youth, Pakistan and Challenges of 21st Century to provoke young minds. The session will be addressed by Dr. Arfa Sayeda Zehra, a renowned Pakistani Educationist, an advocate for human development, basic human rights and gender equality. Joining her in the panel is, Dr. Adil Najam, Dean of Pardee School of Global Studies in Boston University, USA & former Vice Chancellor of Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS). Co-author of the 2017 UNDP Human Development Report on Youth, Dr. Najam is a leading public policy scholar whose teaching, research and public engagement focuses on international environment and development policy, global governance, diplomacy and negotiation, South Asia and higher education in developing countries.

The Youth Parliament Pakistan, is aimed at inculcating values and spirit for Pakistaniat, democracy, the importance of dialogue & tolerance for others views in the youth of Pakistan. Patterned after the National Assembly of Pakistan, the 17th Youth Parliament Pakistan draws its membership from Young Pakistanis aged between 18-29 years situated within Pakistan or abroad.

The Youth Parliament of Pakistan is a project of PILDAT and has been running for the past 17 years. The 17th YPP is supported by the Jang/Geo Group, Bank of Punjab, Interloop Limited, Islamabad Serena Hotel, FES Pakistan, University of Lahore and Institute of Business Administration (IBA), Karachi.
