April 28: Pakistan Institute of Legislative Development and Transparency – PILDAT hosted a dinner in the honour of the outgoing Information Commissioner of the Punjab Information Commission (PIC) Mr. Mukhtar Ahmad Ali on Thursday, April 27, 2017.

Mr. Ahmed Bilal Mehboob, President PILDAT along with other staff members were joined by Mr. Mujib-ur-Rehman Shami, Senior Journalist and President, CPNE and Mr. Hafeez Ullah Niazi, Senior Columnist and Analyst in congratulating the outgoing Information Commissioner on his exceptional services and active role in the improvement of transparency, public access to improved services, accountability and quality of governance in the province.

The passage of the Punjab Transparency and Right To Information Act (PTRTIA), 2013 was an important landmark in the quest for transparency and accountability; however, its implementation has indeed been a challenging one. Mr. Mukhtar Ahmad Ali was an important part of this movement. PILDAT worked closely with the Punjab Information Commission in the implementation of the PTRTIA through combined efforts to increase awareness about its existence, utility and how it could be used especially among vulnerable and disadvantaged segments of the population in Punjab.

Mr. Mujib-ur-Rehman Shami, as a token of recognition and appreciation, presented a special Memento to Mr. Mukhtar Ahmad Ali on the occasion and praised the good work done by Mr. Mukhtar Ahmed Ali and the other two members of the Punjab Information Commission.
