How democratic are political parties internally has an undeniable impact on the overall quality of democracy in the country. Political parties form the pillars of a democratic structure and if parties are over-centralised, and decisions are taken undemocratically in the absence of an inclusive process, the national democratic system becomes hostage to a few individuals.As a consequence, institutions such as the Parliament are unable to perform as the primary institution of genuine representation, people-centric legislation and effective oversight.
