Peshawar, January 07; Chairing the PILDAT Session for KP Women MPAs, Mr. Mushtaq Ahmed Ghani, Speaker Provincial Assembly of Khyber Paktunkhwa said an effective MPA is the one who is an effective committee member. He thanked PILDAT for holding such capacity building programmes.
The PILDAT capability building session for KP Women MPAs was organised in collaboration with the International Republican Institute (IRI) on How to be an Effective Committee Member.
Mr. Ahmed Bilal Mehboob, President PILDAT initiated the session by offering fateha for the deceased brother of Former Senator Farhatullah Babar who was to be one of the speakers at the session. Mr. Mehboob thanked each member for for joining the training session and also appreciated speakers for joining the session.
Mr. Nasrullah Khan Khattak, Secretary Provincial Assembly of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, thanked PILDAT for organizing such programmes and requested that PILDAT should continue organizing such training sessions as they are of immense value towards capacity building of legislators. He also highlighted how PILDAT’s reports are helping them in their self-assessment.
Addressing the participants, Mr. Amjad Ali, Additional Secretary Legislation, KP Assembly, shared in detail on how they can be effective committee members. The highlights of his presentation included introduction to standing committees, roles and responsibilities of Chairperson and members and how can they be effective committee members.
Mr. Atta Ulla Khan, Special Secretary / Secretary to the Speaker Provincial Assembly of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, stressed that a Committee is assembly at work whereas the house is assembly at exhibition. He gave his point of views on how women MPAs can become very effective committee members.
The Session was concluded by Ms. Maliha Ali Asghar, MPA, Chairperson Parliamentary Women Caucus, who said that everyone should read the rules and be fully aware before joining Committee Meetings. If one is fully aware of all rules, they can be effective Committee members.
