Parliamentary Committees form an integral part of a democratic system as these are the major tools used for Parliamentary oversight of the executive as well as participatory decision-making. The strength and buoyancy of a democratic structure can be best gauged by the effective structures in place for a vital committee system. Parliaments around the world continue to strengthen their committees. This briefing paper is an effort to strengthen the Parliamentary Committee System in Pakistan. The paper not only aims to explain the Pakistani Parliamentary Committee System in detail, but also draws its comparison with the Parliamentary Committee Systems adopted by Australia, Britain, India and the USA. The paper is authored by Mr. Alauddin Masood, former Director General (PR) and Joint Secretary Senate.
