The background paper on Peace and Conflict in Pakistan: The Structure and Role of Intelligence Agencies has been prepared for the PILDAT-facilitated Dialogue Group on Civil-Military Relations. This paper has been authored byLt. Gen. (Retd.) Asad Durrani, defence and security analyst and former Director General of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and the Military Intelligence (MI). Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Durrani brings his knowledge on the subject to explain the structure and role of intelligence agencies. PILDAT wishes to acknowledge the support provided by the United States Institute of Peace towards PILDAT’s larger programme of “Research and Dialogue to Improve Civil-Military Relations in Pakistan.” The paper has been prepared under this programme.
