Jan 02; PILDAT mourns the passing of Mr. Sartaj Aziz, an invaluable architect of Pakistan’s policy and governance frameworks. On January 02, 2024, we lost a stalwart, who was not only Pakistan’s former Foreign Minister but also an instrumental figure in shaping the dialogue around national security and democratic institutions.

Mr. Aziz’s contributions to PILDAT were profound. His expertise guided pivotal forums, such as the PILDAT-hosted discussion on the role of the National Security Committee in Pakistan, where his insights on the challenges and design of such bodies enriched our understanding and discourse. He was an advocate for regularizing the committee’s functions and had the foresight to propose an Advisory Board and Planning Committee for the NSC, underscoring his commitment to structured governance. Mr. Sartaj Aziz’s insights enriched PILDAT’s key initiatives on foreign affairs, national security and good governance. His legacy will endure, leaving an indelible mark on our collective pursuit of a better nation.

As we honor his memory, we recognize that his absence leaves a void in our organization. The PILDAT President Mr. Ahmed Bilal Mehboob noted that it was both a privilege and honor to collaborate with such a dedicated and upright individual. Mr. Aziz’s legacy is etched in the chronicles of PILDAT’s and Pakistan’s history, and his ideals will continue to inspire our work towards a resilient and democratic nation.

PILDAT board and all its staff members extend their heartfelt condolence to family and friends and pray for the departed soul.
