May 15, 2014; PILDAT has received a special consultative status at the United Nation’s Economic and Social Council. (ECOSOC). The decision was taken by the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) at its Coordination and Management Session of April 2014.

Letter by the United Nation’s Non-Governmental Organisations Branch to PILDAT, that communicates the official decision, states that the ‘consultative status for an organization enables it to actively engage with ECOSOC and its subsidiary bodies, as well as with the United Nations Secretariat, programmes, funds and agencies in a number of ways.’ The official communiqué also carries a list of privileges that consultative status with ECOSOC confers on PILDAT as well as the obligations that are required to be met under this relationship.
