As we move forward in “Democracy’s Vanguard: Youth’s Electoral Participation in Pakistan,” we witness a remarkable shift in the political landscape of Pakistan. The 2024 general elections marked a significant milestone in the country’s democratic journey, with a notable surge in youth turnout. This increase is a testament to the tireless efforts of various stakeholders who have worked diligently to raise awareness and encourage youth participation in the electoral process.
The data speaks for itself – a remarkable 11% increase in youth turnout from 2018, with 48% of young voters casting their ballots in 2024, matching the national turnout. This unprecedented rise in youth engagement is a clear indication that the efforts to empower and mobilize young Pakistanis have borne fruit. In this chapter, we will examine PILDAT’s effort behind this remarkable increase in youth turnout, from voter education initiatives to social media campaigns, and from grassroots activism to political party outreach. We will also analyse the implications of this shift, including the potential for a more inclusive and representative political landscape.
