After the terrorist acts in London in July 2005, the need to search deeper into the root causes behind this terrorism has heightened. It was generally felt that this effort needs to be made at different levels both within the countries of the ‘West’ and the countries of the Muslim World. A dialogue between the ‘West’ and the Muslim world was seen as being helpful in understanding the causes of the extremism, resort to violence and terrorism.
