Understanding and Promoting the Role of Political Parties in Public Policy Analysis and Formulation, a Briefing Paper by PILDAT, is a key component of an initiative PILDAT has taken to strengthen the capacity of Pakistan’s political parties to analyze, deliberate and formulate public policies in an effective and democratic manner. Political parties actually help the institutions and processes of a government. They enable people to participate in elections and other processes of governance, educate them and facilitate them to make policy choices. This paper sheds light on the role that political parties should play in developing public policy, covers an overview of practices in some developed democracies of the world, role of in-party think tanks and development of election manifestoes as the output of public policy discussion within each party.
