Parliaments are multi-disciplinary institutions with many roles. One of these critical roles is to ensure good governance. This background paper compares the Canadian and Pakistani Parliamentary systems in the context of delivering good governance. After giving a brief overview of the two political systems as background information, the paper focuses on the tools and mechanisms available to Canadian and Pakistani Parliaments such as the Committee Systems, the Public Accounts Committees, the Budget Processes, Oversight of Government Policies, Oversight of the Security Sector, Mechanisms for the Protection of Human Rights, Media and Web Coverage of Parliaments and Question Periods, etc.
