The National Accountability Commission Bill, 2012 (NAC 2012) was introduced in the National Assembly of Pakistan by Senator Farooq H. Naek, Federal Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, on October 08, 2012 by withdrawing the earlier draft Accountability bill: The Holders of Public Offices (Accountability) Bill, 2009. The Holdersof Public Offices (Accountability) Bill, 2009 (HOPO 2009) was introduced by the Government in the National Assembly on April 15, 2009. After remaining at the committee stage for 3 years and 6 months, this bill was withdrawn by the Government replacing it with the National Accountability Commission Bill, 2012. The National Accountability Commission Bill, 2012 was referred to the National Assembly Standing Committee on Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs amidst protest by the leading opposition party, PML-N. Reports suggest that the Government th plans to pass the law during the 46 session of the National Assembly.
