PILDAT’s first-ever Briefing Paper – Federal Budget Process in Pakistan – was prepared and first published in May 2003 for the benefit of Parliamentarians. The Paper, with its simple and concise explanation of the topic, i.e., Budget Process, helped MPs understand one of their most crucial powers – Parliamentary Control of the Purse Strings and was widely welcomed and received with administration. Given the interest of Parliamentarians, the first edition ran out of print. This is the Second Edition of the briefing paper which has been updated to reflect changes both in the budget process and Parliamentary rules dealing with those. We hope that Parliamentarians find the paper to be useful in carrying out one of their key responsibilities.
