PILDAT hosted the 4th round of Pakistan-Afghanistan Parliamentarians Dialogue in Islamabad on March 29-30, 2011 to bring together Afghan and Pakistani Parliamentarians to discuss issues of mutual interest and concern that impact the relationship between the two neighbouring countries. A delegation of 20 Afghan Parliamentarians, belonging to the Senate and National Assembly of Afghanistan (Meshrano Jirga and Wolesi Jirga respectively) had a detailed dialogue with their Pakistani counterparts on issues of mutual interest including Terrorism, Trade and the role of media in bringing the two countries closer to one another. PILDAT conceptualised and initiated the project of building and deepening Parliamentary ties and relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan in 2008. Three joint workshops of Pakistani and Afghani Parliamentarians were held by PILDAT in 2008 and 2009. The broad objective behind the initiative was that Parliaments of the two countries should develop a relationship that should facilitate greater interaction and dialogue with each other on bilateral and regional relations and issues of mutual interest.
