PILDAT, in association with the Standing Committee on Defence and Defence Production in the Senate of Pakistan, hosted the 8th Round of Pakistan-Afghanistan Parliamentarians’ Dialogue in Kabul on September 10-11, 2013. The purpose of the 8th Round of Dialogue was to bring together Afghan and Pakistani Defence Committees to initiate a Parliamentary forum on defence and security relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan. The two counterpart committees discussed Security Issues and the Defence Cooperation between Pakistan and Afghanistan, Existing and Emerging Challenges in Pak-Afghan relations, Cross-Border Terrorism, Narcotics Smuggling and Border Management Issues, Challenges of 2014 NATO withdrawal and Afghanistan Peace Process and Institutionalising Pakistan-Afghanistan Defence Parliamentary Dialogue. A delegation of ten (10) Pakistan Parliamentarians, belonging to the Senate of Pakistan and Special Invitee, Honourable Maulana Mohammad Khan Sherani, MNA, belonging to the National Assembly of Pakistan had a detailed dialogue with their Afghan counterparts on the contentious issues impacting the relations of the two countries. This report presents an overview of the 8th round of the Dialogue. PILDAT conceptualized and initiated the project of building and deepening Parliamentary ties and relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan in 2008. Six joint workshops of Pakistani and Afghanistan Parliamentarians were held by PILDAT in 2008, 2009 and mid 2011.
