In line with PILDAT’s commitment to promote transparency and accountability in Pakistan’s governance institutions, we conduct an annual review of the performance of the National Security Committee (NSC) from the perspective of the citizens of Pakistan. Each year, the performance period is determined based on the date of the oath of office of the Prime Minister of Pakistan.
This report covers the period from March 05, 2025 to March 15, 2026, marking the second year of the current term of Prime Minister Mr. Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, who returned to office following the 2024 General Election. The review evaluates how effectively the NSC functioned during this period, particularly in the context of evolving regional and global security challenges, including bilateral tensions with India and the increasingly complex international environment. The report includes the Data on NSC meetings during the review period.
This report has been authored by Ms. Areeb Khan, Projects Officer and reviewed Mr. Ahmed Bilal Mehboob, President PILDAT who also directed and supervised the preparation of the report. The Historical Background section of the report relies heavily on the similar sections in the previous PILDAT reports on the performance of NSC.
