PERFORMANCE OF THE NATIONAL SECURITY COMMITTEE 2024-2025

In line with PILDAT’s commitment to promoting transparency and accountability in Pakistan’s governance institutions, we conduct an annual review of the performance of the National Security Committee (NSC) from the citizens’ perspective. Each year, the performance period is determined based on the date of the oath of office of the Prime Minister of Pakistan.

This report covers the period from March 05, 2024 to March 04, 2025, marking the first year of the current term of Prime Minister Mr. Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, who returned to office following the 2024 General Election. This review seeks to evaluate how effectively the NSC functioned during this time period, in the context of the security and governance challenges faced during the year.

The data on the number of Apex Committee meetings during the review period has been compiled independently by PILDAT. To verify this information, PILDAT formally contacted the Cabinet Secretary of the Federal Government and the Chief Secretaries of all four Provincial Governments. However, no timely responses were received. While the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa did provide a response, the data it shared contradicted PILDAT’s findings; therefore, for consistency and accuracy, PILDAT has relied on its own compiled data.
