A Briefing Session on Parliamentary Oversight of the Defence Sector: Case Studies from Indonesia and Turkey was organized by PILDAT on January 14, 2010 Islamabad where experts, analysts and subject-specialists believed that the Constitution of Pakistan should govern relations between different organs of the state as well as civil-military relations for a sustainable democracy in Pakistan. The Briefing Session concluded with a consensus that Rule of law and good governance have to be the key byproducts of a democratic order within which militaries find little space to intervene in politics. The relationship between the civilian political set-up and the military must be guided by the Constitution of Pakistan and the Parliament and Parliamentary Committees must exercise their available powers to establish and exercise an effective and responsible control and oversight of the defence sector in Pakistan.
