The National Conference on Election 2007 –Challenges and Prospects: with the special focus on NWFP and Balochistan was organised by PILDAT at Islamabad on February 26-27, 2007. The main objective of the conference, organised with support from the Canadian High Commission, Islamabad, was to provide a platform to hear and understand diverse views on likely scenarios emerging out of the coming general election in Pakistan expected to be held in 2007/2008. The conference looked at the national scenario of the coming general election as well as focused especially on the provinces of the NWFP and Balochistan which had seen the emergence of the religio-political alliance, the Muttahidda Majlis-e-Amal, Pakistan (MMAP) as the successful party from the 2002 general election. PILDAT offers its sincerest thanks and appreciation to the panel of speakers at the conference who presented their perspectives in various sessions of the conference. PILDAT would also like to thank the participants of the conference, including current and veteran MPs, media analysts, foreign missions and aid agencies in Pakistan, for enriching the discourse at the conference through their participation in the conference and the Q&A/Discussion segments proceeding each session. This report of the conference mainly carries the papers by the speakers while the Q&A/Discussion sessions present the interaction and debate following the presentations of the speakers in each session.
