In the year 2019-2020, PILDAT engaged with elected governments, assemblies and parties and individual elected representatives, especially women legislators, on how to build and strengthen their capabilities and their parties.
During this year, covered in this PILDAT Annual Report 2019-2020 from July 01, 2019 to June 30, 2020, PILDAT has continued to prepare and deliver evidence-based analyses to policy makers and to citizens, while working to encourage greater engagement of citizens with respective governments and assemblies. While more detailed overview of our work is given in following pages, I am glad to share some of PILDAT’s work during this year:

Youth and its political empowerment and engagement has remained a major focus of PILDAT initiatives during this year. Not only PILDAT facilitated young people to meaningfully and constructively engage with political parties and stakeholders, we continued to provide avenues of structured engagement and dialogue between young people from across Pakistan with their elected representatives for meaningful political engagement.

In keeping with our focus on youth, PILDAT launched the 2nd Cohort of Young Politicians’ Fellowship Programme (YPFP) which selected 27 of the brightest young political party members from all political parties represented in the National Assembly and/or the four Provincial Assemblies to provide them with a unique opportunity of learning, training and building of leadership skills. The Young Politicians’ Fellowship Programme (YPFP) is a prestigious programme of training and in-depth learning for young, active and passionate political party workers. The highly-competitive fellowship programme was designed to provide a unique opportunity to selected young members, belonging to Pakistan’s political parties represented in the National Assembly and/or the four Provincial Assemblies, to tackle political challenges and opportunities and effectively contribute to policy reform. The fellowship, through high-level trainings and engagements, facilitated selected fellows to connect, exchange experiences, and receive academic, practitioner and policy training to enrich their knowledge
of the field of politics. -
Women’s political empowerment remained high on the agenda of PILDAT’s work this year as PILDAT designed, and through partnership with women MPs, delivered targeted capacity-building courses for women representatives in Pakistan’s Parliament as well as in the four Provincial Assemblies of Pakistan.

Strengthening Inter-Institutional Relations through Inter-Institutional Dialogue has remained another continued focus of PILDAT during the year. Through a variety of engagements, interactions, research, analyses and publications, PILDAT has continued to lead an essential and informed discourse in this crucial area during the year

In its work on Political Parties, PILDAT engaged with political parties and provided support in developing and articulating party policies in order to strengthen internal democracy within their parties. PILDAT also gathered parliamentarians to understand the federal budget process in Pakistan and highlighted the role of the parliament in budget process.
These initiatives and other modest contributions of PILDAT this year in strengthening democracy and democratic institutions in Pakistan are being shared with you through this report. PILDAT team is committed in effective implementation of our mission for strengthening democracy and democratic institutions in Pakistan.
